9/29/04 - Well, that didn’t take long.
An 18 y.o. teenager in Philadelphia was killed two weeks ago when riding a pocketbike the wrong way down a one way street. City leaders are acting to get them banned in Pennsylvania. They were being sold by a Pep Boys store.

Where are you going to ride them? If you can’t ride them on the street, and you don’t happen to have your own private road...what’s the point?

9/25/04 - What’s the point?
Regulations as to what is and is not street legal are likely to dampen the planned flooding of the mini-motorcycle market into the USA by Chinese exporters. Neighborhoods should prepare for the onslaught because importers are selling them by the hundreds.
If you had a minibike when you were a kid, wait until you see what you can get Junior for Christmas this year. They are mini choppers. Heck, you might find them to be a lot of fun too. With engine displacements between 43cc and 49cc, they go about 30 mph, but it seems faster. The chopper models I tried had really comfortable seats. Retail prices range from about $400 to $500, with 30 day warranty, which is voided if they are dumped.
The fake V-Twin engine is a real turnoff unless it can be used for some purpose such as a reserve gas tank or storage. For those inclined towards sportsbikes, there are Ninja models that look like torture devices and have hard seats.
There is also something called a pocketbike. These teeny little racers are only kneehigh, look like little Ninja sportbikes, and with watercooled 49cc they boogy along more than 35 mph, with some reports that people have reached a top end of 60 mph.
California and other states are reacting by modifying their moped laws. If you plan on getting one of these, you may want to check your state and local laws.
My personal thoughts? It was loads of fun to ride these, and I could easily get a kick out of terrorizing the neighborhood until I’m busted, but wouldn’t want to be mixing it up with any serious traffic unless the power was doubled. The frame appears capable of handling a larger engine, but then it would need a better transmission. I personally loved the small size and found it even more comfortable than my full-sized HD.

9/15/2004 AeroScore invests in future of Bikers Magazine. After years of using analog cameras, Bikers Magazine finally went Digital. The first pictures are of the Independent Biker Tee Shirt for Biker Tee.Com . “This is so much easier than shooting the photos, getting film developed, then scanning the photos onto the computer. This is going to be a big time and money saver, and I’ll pass the savings along to my advertisers. Not only that, but the cameras are so small that fitting it into the pockets of my leather is really easy which makes it handy for coverage of rallies and other motorcycle events.” AeroScore owns Bikers Magazine and several other web publishing businesses.
9/3/04 Police in Ottawa County, Michigan have finally caught that crazy motorcyclist on I-196. He was clocked at 154 mph. They were not able to pull him over, but were otherwise able to find out his whereabouts and charge him. Some reports say he has been charged with eluding police in addition to speeding, while other reports say he was going so fast he didn’t know the police were trying to catch him.	Oh Deer. It is that season again, when deer are getting hit by automobiles and motorycles. Always be aware that animals can suddenly appear. (In memory of Mr. Clean, Charlotte who died after hitting a dog in 1999).
8/13/04 Aprilia, makers of the fastest Italian production motorcycle, was acquired by Piaggio. Piaggio's production includes scooters, motorcycles and mopeds in displacements from 50 to 500cc under the Piaggio, Vespa, Gilera and Derbi brands.
7/26/04 Indian bought by Stellican, an investment firm from the UK.
